An example of this transdisciplinary approach is our integrated political economy program. Taught by core faculty from both political science and economics, it joins other innovative joint degree programs such as our policy and evaluation program with colleagues from the School of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences; and a unique collaborative degree program in politics, economics and business in partnership with the renowned Drucker-Ito School of Management.
A distinctive feature of SPE is the interconnection between the study of American politics and political philosophy, which delivers to our graduates the decisive advantage of a transdisciplinary background in the study of the foundations of American democracy.
SPE excels in political science training in American politics, political philosophy, world politics, comparative politics, and public policy and methods; and we also show our strength in women and politics, race and ethnicity, and religion and politics. Our focus on political economy is especially strong in our world politics and comparative politics tracks; both of which enjoy close collaborative relations with the economics faculty who are committed to applications-oriented research and teaching. Economics students develop a sought-after expertise in international finance, global commerce and finance, international trade and development, public choice, and industrial organization. This high-level, practical training at SPE propels our graduates into positions at top universities, in the US government, in ministries of finance abroad, and with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
SPE also provides valuable training in the leading-edge field of in neuroeconomics. This innovative program offers the first PhD degree in this exciting new field that bridges economics, psychology and public policy. It is only available in SPE.
