The year of the Tiger was ushered in with a celebration by the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) in partnership with the GSC. McKenna Auditorium decorated in red signfied best wishes, prosperity and health for the Tiger year. Hungry Claremont students were in line before 7 pm for authentic Chinese food like Kung Pao Chicken, Mar-Boh Tofu, fried shrimp, green pepper beef, pineapple cake .... the list is way too long; you just had to be there!
Dinner was followed by super performances by CSSA members. From solo singing by Scripps and CMC students, to a seamless, harmonious blending of Chinese calligraphy and painting accompanied by the Erhu and piano, to modern, spicy dances by (who else!) CGU studetns, and interactive games, everyone had a brilliant time. Some lucky people won the lottery of Chinese crafts! Too bad we had to go home, but the song finale, CGU Welcomes You, an adaptation of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, was a great ending to a fabulous evening befitting the spirit of the Tiger.
If you missed the celebration, enjoy the slide show - and just wait till the year of the Rabbit comes along next year to see what CSSA does. The GSC is thrilled about partnering with international student groups as a way of sharing global cultures at CGU.
