With sadness we report the death of Prof D.Z. Phillips on Tuesday, 25 July 2006, in Swansea, Wales. Services for Prof Phillips were held in Swansea on Friday, 4 August 2006 in Henrietta Chapel (Ebenezer Newydd) and in Oystermouth Cemetery. A memorial service for Prof Phillips will be held in Claremont soon after the beginning of Fall semester. More details will follow. D. Z. Phillips is Danforth Professor of the Philosophy of Religion at CGU and Rush Rhees Research Professor at the University of Wales, Swansea. His main research interests are: philosophy of religion, ethics, philosophy and literature, and Wittgenstein. He has published twenty books and articles in these areas. His latest books are From Fantasy to Faith; Interventions in Ethics; Wittgenstein and Religion; Introducing Philosophy; Philosophy's Cool Place; Recovering Religious Concepts; and Religion and the Hermeneutics of Contemplation. The endowed lectures he has given include the Cardinal Mercier Lectures (Leuven), Marett Lecture (Oxford), Riddell Lectures (Newcastle), McMartin Lectures (Ottowa), Hintz Lecture (Tucson), and the Aquinas Lecture (Oxford), and Vonhoff Lectures (Groningen).
