M.Div., McCormick Theological Seminary

Ph.D., Harvard University

Dennis MacDonald began his teaching career at Goshen College, taught at Iliff School of Theology, and joined the Claremont School of Theology and CGU School of Religion faculty in 1998. His most recent book, Does the New Testament Imitate Homer? (Yale University Press, 2003), defends his proposal in an earlier book, The Homeric Epics and the Gospel of Mark (Yale 2000) that the earliest evangelist extensively imitated the Iliad and the Odyssey. In the new book MacDonald develops his methodology more thoroughly and shows that four passages in the Acts of the Apostles imitate the Iliad. Dr. MacDonald has also been featured on a documentary on the Apostles that aired on the History Channel and serves as Director of the Institute for Antiquity and Christianity at Claremont Graduate University.
