Dr. Dreitcer has been a Presbyterian pastor, seminary instructor in spirituality studies, director of seminary programs in spiritual formation and spiritual direction, retreat leader and spiritual director. His areas of interests include study of the historical roles of scripture in the spiritual life, the historical developments of Christian prayer traditions, the history of spirituality, and the relationship between spiritual formation and theological studies. Dr. Dreitcer's spiritual life was significantly shaped by a year spent at the French community of Taizé. He is the author of numerous essays covering a range of topics related to spirituality, and has recently co-written a book entitled Beyond the Ordinary: Spirituality for Church Leaders (published by Eerdmans).
