How does the Career Development Office help me find a job or internship?
We will work with you to design an action plan that meets your individual needs through a combination of: self assessment, research, search strategies (i.e. networking), creation of self marketing tools (i.e. resume/CV, Cover Letters), and interview preparation. We also have an online interview preparation platform called Big Interview (cgu.biginterview.com) you can use to develop and practice your interviewing skills.
Will the Career Development Office give me direct access to alumni for networking purposes?
You may be provided with alumni contacts if we have an ongoing relationship with an alumnus who works in your field of interest. However, before referring you to a direct contact, we will often work with you on your networking skills.
Does the Career Development Office offer services to CGU alumni?
Yes. Alumni are welcome to attend our on-campus career workshops and information sessions. We also encourage alumni to schedule an individual appointment with our career consultants to discuss their career related needs, whether that be finding their first post CGU job, preparing to advance their a career or launching a career transition.
Does the Career Development Office provide on-campus interviews and information sessions with employers?
Does the Career Development Office host workshops that will help me with future employment?
Yes. Career workshops are held during the Fall, Spring and Summer. Our workshops are designed to cover essential aspects of the employment process that include: Job Search and Networking, Resume and CV Development, and Interviewing Skills. Please check our calendar for more information.
If I decide to work with a career consultant, what can I expect?
You can expect individualized attention and advice about your specific career planning and job search needs. This can include resume, CV and cover letter review, job search and networking techniques, mock interviews, industry guidance, salary negotiation, and much more. Your initial appointment may or may not lead to follow-up appointments depending on your needs.
