"When I selected CGU and the MSFE program, I could not picture all the good things that it would bring to my life. I can highlight three major areas of my experience: First, it was an excellent academic experience and as one of the top students, I was not only able to embrace the technical skills of a financial engineer but also the managerial skills from the faculty and students at the Drucker School (or Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito as it is known today).
Second, as an international student it has been so far the greatest life experience. US, California, L.A., Claremont and surroundings have now a very special place in my heart. Two years away from home made me realize that now I have another home and all because of the people I met, the way the staff at CGU treated me and my wife (special greeting to International Place). On top of all, about 50% of international students in the program made our experience, a multicultural one, five times better.
Third, my wife and I were just married when we moved to Claremont and those two years provided us with the strongest foundations for our marriage. We enjoyed a lot, traveled around US, especially within California, learned to love wine and Mexican American food and had quite an extended honeymoon. Thanks to her and her support I was able to success through the MSFE program.
Nowadays, we are back in Colombia and after almost three years as MSFE alumni, we both have been able to capitalize our experience. I am the Chief of Investments for one of the largest private pension funds in my country and the FE and managerial skills I acquired during the program have helped me a lot. The international exposure opened my mind and now we manage assets all around the world. From here I do not know what will happen but I feel confident that I am prepared for greater challenges in my life and my career, sentiment that I did not foresee when I started the program in 2002. Hopefully my story will help you make a decision that I am sure, you cannot completely see all the potential benefits it will bring to your life... someday."
