Modeling Wind Turbine Power Generation

There are numerous wind turbine parks in California and elsewhere. Their efficiency has considerably improved over the past few years and a growth in their numbers and their contribution to electrical power generation is foreseen.

A problem with wind turbine generation is the variability of the power generated and the common location of wind parks in remote areas where transmission lines are sparse and may become overloaded. These give rise to voltage stability problems. SCE has contracted with the CGU Mathematics Clinic to develop a model encompassing the turbines and transmission lines to analyze voltage instabilities.
