Claremont Graduate University is pleased to announce a new partnership with DBM, a leading global human resource and career transition firm. The two-year pilot partnership will enhance the menu of career services available to CGU graduate students and alumni. While DBM works with many private organizations all over the world, this collaboration is only the second of its kind between DBM and a university in the U.S.
Beginning on July 1, 2006, CGU’s graduate students and alumni will have access to DBM’s online and in-person resources, its “JobScout” database which taps into a global network of over 7,000 client organizations, and its “webinars” covering various aspects of the current job market. In addition, students will be able to schedule one-on-one sessions with DBM consultants either on campus or at one of the DBM offices in the Los Angeles area.
Cornelis A. “Kees” de Kluyver, Dean of the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management, supports this new program.
“This shows that CGU is at the forefront of new practices and is ready to experiment with new ideas whose time have come,” Dean de Kluyver said. “We are in an electronic age. The time for trying something like this has come.”
The program will complement the existing programs and services of the CGU Office of Career Management.
“The best part is that students will get involved in the process very early,” Dean de Kluyver said. “Traditionally, students often wait until their final year of graduate school before they look for jobs. This forces students early in their academic career into what type of professional direction they want to pursue.”
According to Rick Hernandez, DBM’s Los Angeles District Management Consultant, incoming students will also hone their interview and networking skills.
“Our hope is to be able to align with the value and goals of Claremont’s graduates,” Hernandez said. “It’s about making a difference in people’s lives.”
