Drucker Society of Korea Continues to Grow
The Peter F. Drucker Society of Korea
The Peter F. Drucker Society of Korea recently celebrated its one-year birthday. The celebration took place in Seoul, South Korea, and was attended by Kerry Boyle, the executive director of CGU’s Drucker School.
At the meeting, the society announced the protocol for the Korean version of the Drucker Innovation Award, a cash gift to a non or for-profit business which is making a huge difference in the world. The CGU version of the Innovation Award gives $20,000 to a non-profit organization. Last year, the Landscape Bank of the Florida non-profit, “Keep Alachua County Beautiful,” was selected as the winning organization. With the assistance of the award, KACB was able to keep its doors open and continue replanting trees that were devastated by last season’s hurricanes.
The Korean Drucker Society has about 100 members, and is composed of executives from major Korean corporations and some of South Korea’s leading academics, all of whom study Drucker’s works and adapt his management theories into their organizations.
“There have been many CEOs of Korean companies and academicians who have read and studied Professor Drucker’s works and explored the possibility to apply his advices and recommendations in practice,” said Moon Kook Hyun, President and CEO of Yuhan Kimberly, Ltd., who also serves as Chairman of the Peter Drucker Society in Korea.
A group of Korean businessmen—Mr. Moon Kook Hyun, Mr. Lee Hyung Mo, Professor Lee Jae Kyu, and Professor Chang Young Chul—visited Drucker in Claremont in October of 2004.
“Peter Drucker was very delighted about our plan and was willing to support our activities in Korea although he was not able to make trip here,” Kook Hyan said. “At the end of our talk he encouraged us by saying, ‘Life-long learning keeps people young!’ His comment is always repeated in our meetings in Korea.”
The Korean Drucker Society was formed on Sept. 16 of 2005.
There are two other Drucker Societies in the world, in Japan and China.
