The IRB office operates on a 12-month basis. Applications for IRB review may be submitted at any time (go here to download the correct application form and related information). All applications will be read shortly after receipt.
Nearly all applications meet the criteria either for exemption or for expedited review (go here to review the criteria that the IRB applies for level of review.) The initial response to these applications will generally take two to five business days, but the queue may extend as long as 10 business days due to pending or intervening holidays, breaks, or other periods of high activity.
If an application does not qualify for exemption or the expedited procedure, it will be reviewed when the full Board convenes. Board meetings take place as needed, and an applicant will be informed shortly after receipt if "full Board" status applies, and the associated schedule. Applications will generally be reviewed and the Board's initial written response conveyed within six to eight weeks of receipt.
Please contact the IRB officeif you have further questions regarding the level of review your research is likely to require.
