Congratulations on your admission to the Financial Engineering Management Program, a joint venture between the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management and the School of Mathematical Sciences.
Here at the Financial Engineering Program, we pride ourselves on making each year better than the last, and we rely on students like you to help us continue on our path to excellence. We are excited to welcome you to the FEM family and into our next class of students. Preparing to attend the program is an important part of your life and we want to make this transition as easy as possible for you.
This link to the Office of Real Estate and Housing, is where you can find housing information around the Claremont community. This is another link that will direct you to our Office of Career Management. OCM can help facilitate the process of finding a job, help update resumes, enhance interviewing skills and much more.
If you are an international student, we encourage you to visit International Place (nicknamed I-Place). I-Place provides newly admitted international students with an array of services. They offer airport pickup services, provide temporary lodging with host families while students find permanent housing, and help inform students of changing international laws.
Finally, you will find instructions on how to register for your courses and other curricular information below. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the registration process, please feel free to contact Albert Ramos at albert.ramos@cgu.edu or by phone at (909) 621-80167.
Registration:
To begin your registration, peruse through the List of Courses and select the courses you wish to take. As a new entering student, however, you are limited as to the classes you can take.
First year students are required to take Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance, and Probability in their first semester, as indicated by the Course Planning Guide.
Once you have made your selection, write them down in your Course Registration Form. Please be sure to fill out the form completely and sign your name at the bottom of the form; your Academic Advisor is Albert Ramos.
Once you are done, you can scan the form and e-mail it back to me at albert.ramos@cgu.edu, or you can fax it to my attention at (909) 621-8551. Please include a cover sheet.
A word of notice: CGU is part of the Claremont Consortium which includes Pomona, Pitzer, Scripps, Harvey Mudd and Claremont McKenna Colleges. As such, you are allowed, with the permission of the professor, to take classes in these colleges for graduate credit, should CGU courses conflict with your schedule. The location of these courses is indicated by the letters PO (Pomona) CM (Claremont McKenna) and HM (Harvey Mudd) next to the 3-digit course number. If no abbreviations exist, the class is held at CGU.
Auditing Courses:
By taking 12 or more units per semester, you are eligible to audit a 4 unit course at no extra tuition cost. To audit a course, make sure to place a check off the “audit box” in the Course Registration Form.
Transferring Courses:
For those of you who have completed graduate course work, please be advised that you may be eligible to transfer up to 8 units of approved graduate credit. If you feel you are eligible to transfer units, please provide us with a link to an online course description of the courses you wish to transfer. Remember that you must have had to receive the equivalent of a "B" grade or better to transfer in credit.
Waiving Courses:
If you have not completed graduate coursework, but have extensive training in probability, statistics, accounting or corporate finance, you may be eligible to waive one or more of these courses. The program directors will evaluate your prior coursework if you wish to try to take advantage of this option. Unlike a transfer, you will still be required to complete all 48 units, but you may substitute an appropriate elective for a required course, adding value to your overall education.
