Teacher Education Leadership

DeLacy Derin Ganley, Ph.D.

Director, Teacher Education

Faculty, School of Educational Studies

Ganley has been on the faculty of CGU’s School of Educational Studies since 2002. After co-directing CGU’s Teacher Education Department for ten years, Ganley became the sole Director in 2012. The Department relies upon Ganley's background as a K-16 English teacher; her experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse populations; her understanding of how technology can facilitate student learning; and her ability to synthesize and articulate the program's vision and its components. Ganley has taught throughout the educational pipeline. She started her career teaching English and American Studies in high schools and colleges, both domestically and abroad. After personally witnessing the need for public K-12 systems to better prepare their graduates for life and post-secondary education, she became involved in research related to educational reform and teacher education. Ganley is centrally concerned with what it means to be a quality teacher. Recently she has expanded the conversations around this issue to include discussions related to global competencies. In 2010 Ganley was awarded a Fulbright that allowed her to take a dozen Teacher Education candidates to Vietnam for a month-long sojourn. In 2011 and 2012, she designed and directed CGU’s Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program, a project sponsored by IREX and the US Department of State that allowed CGU to host 22 educators from around the world for a six-week professional development program. Ganley been the principal author on grants that have collectively brought more than $2.4 million to CGU. Under co-leadership, the Department brought in over $9.2 million in grants between 2005-2012.
