How much does it cost to go to school at Claremont?

Q: How much does it cost to go to school at Claremont?
A: For the most current tuition information see the CGU Tuition and Fees Schedule.

Application Deadlines:

CGU accepts applications on a rolling basis, however, we suggest that you submit your application by the following priority deadlines to be considered for institutional and financial aid:

Fall (September): February 1
Spring (January): November 1
Summer (May):

April 1    


Is your school accredited?

Q: Is your school accredited?

A: Yes, the Claremont Graduate University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Accreditation papers are available from the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Are standardized tests required?

Q: Are standardized tests required?
A: Yes, we will accept either the GRE or the GMAT. This is an institutional requirement.

Q: What is the average GRE score?
A: Average GRE scores are above 1,100.

Q: What is the average GMAT score?
A: Average GMAT scores are around 600.

Q: Do I have to take both the GRE and the GMAT exams?
A: No, you need to take only one exam.

Q: My GRE or GMAT scores are over 5 years old will you accept them?
A: Unfortunately, scores over 5 years old are not accepted.

Q: I already have a Master's degree do I still have to take the GRE or GMAT exam?
A: Yes, everyone has to take the exams, it is an institutional requirement.

Information for International Students

Q: Do I need a TOEFL or IELTS? 
A: You will NOT need to take either the TOEFL or IELTS if you graduated from a university that taught all courses in English, regardless of your citizenship.

Q: What is the minimum TOEFL score?
A: We require a minimum score of 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based).

Q: What is the IELTS range you require?
A: We require a score between 6.5-7.

Q: Can I start my degree program in the Spring or Summer semester?
A: Yes, we admit on a rolling basis. This means that you can start your degree program in the Fall (Aug/Sept), Spring (Jan) or Summer (May).

Q: I've missed the Financial Aid deadline, will you still review my file for admission purposes?
A: Yes, we will review your file for admission and also for financial aid if we still have financial aid money left over.

Q: Do you offer full or tuition waivers?
A: Yes, we do have limited slots for full-tuition waivers. Claremont Graduate University is a small, stand-alone, private institution with an estimated annual cost of $29,136, based on 24 units. Our average awards are between 25-45% of tuition.

Q: Do you offer Institutional Aid to international students?
A: Yes, International and domestic students are viewed equally.

Q: How can I apply for a teaching or research assistantship?
A: On the application, please be sure to indicate that you wish to be considered for Institutional Aid. Both the teaching and research assistantships are awarded from our Institutional Aid funds. When students are awarded money from our Institutional Aid funds it is awarded as either an assistantship or a tuition award but not both.

Q: Is the School of Information Systems and Technology the same as the Drucker School of Management?
A: No, we are separate stand-alone schools within the Claremont Graduate University system.

Q: If I e-mail or phone you with my standardized test scores, GPA and other background material can you tell me if I'd be admitted to your program?
A: No, we cannot make that kind of decision over the phone. We must see all required documentation before making any kind of an admission decision. Admission decisions are made in writing, not verbally.

Q: Do I have to have a degree in Computer Science to be admitted into your degree program?
A: Though most of our students have a degree in either Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or Business Administration, a degree in these fields is not an admission requirement.
