Dean's Welcome
The School of Information Systems and Technology at Claremont Graduate University is a unique academic entity that began teaching classes in 1983. We offer masters and doctoral degrees. Our mission is to prepare outstanding transdisciplinary professionals and educators to assume leadership positions in integrating knowledge, technology, and management into diverse and global organizations and cultures.
Dr. Paul Gray (Emeritus Professor) was our founding chair. He is a world-renowned scholar who was instrumental in beginning the Association for Information Systems and is now the curator of the Paul Gray PC Museum, our newest School resource. Dr. Gray's vision and knowledge helped develop one of the foremost graduate programs in Information Science in the world. We are one of a few Schools that offer a complete Information Systems curriculum each academic year.
We are closely linked to other Schools at CGU and other Claremont Colleges. Our MS students can customize their concentration area to include courses from other parts of the university, and our PhD students must complete two cognate minors outside the School of Information Systems and Technology. Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management students who are required to take the introductory IS course, take it through the School of IS&T. We encourage and support CGU dual degree programs. We have a number of plenary faculty members from five consortium schools.
We pride ourselves in keeping the CGU "flame" burning brightly. We provide a personalized education and believe our students are our greatest asset. Faculty and staff doors are always open, classes are interactive and friendly, and students work closely together in a collegial atmosphere. We continue to improve and want you to share in that legacy.
As you browse the web site, you will find that our research, teaching and activities are tightly linked to four specialization areas. We have an extensive research program that is carried out in four research labs.. Schools of Information and Information Science, Schools of Business, and related schools that offer degrees in the fields of information systems and information science provide a number of advantages, but no school can claim the range of benefits that we offer.
