International Fellows Program

"The program made me a lot closer to my classmates. We were able to share our knowledge with each other. This was an advantage over other international students who had to struggle to learn independently. We formed a strong team perhaps because of the rigor of the program and the external pressures of living in a different culture. I have made a lot of good friends, and I am sure we will keep in contact after graduation.

—Hiroshi Ishimura, Japan

"Managers have to learn to know language, to understand what words are and what they mean. Perhaps most important, they have to acquire respect for language as our most precious gift and heritage. Without the ability to motivate by means of the written and spoken word or the telling number, a manager cannot be successful."
—Peter F. Drucker (1909-2005)

OVERVIEW
This program, specially tailored to the Drucker curriculum, is widely known for its academic rigor. The International Fellows Program provides incoming non-native English-speaking international students an excellent opportunity to polish their language and participation skills, so that they may succeed in their graduate-level courses and adapt to the expectations of American academic culture.

Some Drucker international students are required to participate in the program, but all are welcome--and recommended--to join it. The program begins in June, with ten intensive weeks in the summer, one course during the fall semester, followed by an optional spring course.

The goals of the program are to help students:

  • Develop sophisticated spoken and written English for academic and professional purposes.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of American culture-in particular, business and academic cultures
  • Build confidence for success in the classroom and beyond
  • Become bilingual and bicultural managers in their fields
