Setting up Cellular Data service on the iPad

You do not need a cellular phone contract to use 3/4G cellular data service on your iPad.  Instead, you can purchase a monthly cellular data plan for your iPad.  These plans automatically renew each month until you cancel the plan.

In order to use the 3G/4G cellular data service, you must purchase the 3G/4G version of the iPad.   You cannot use the 3G/4G cellular data service if you purchased the WiFi only version of the iPad.

Please visit AT&T's web site and Verizon's web site for more information about these monthly cellular data plans.  The prices differ between carriers and data usage.  And of course, prices and terms are subject to change at any time.  The information below is current as of April 2012.

AT&T:

  • 250MB - $14.99 per month
  • 3GB - $30 per month
  • 5GB - $50 per month

Verizon:

  • 1GB - $20 per month
  • 2GB - $30 per month
  • 5GB - $50 per month
  • 10GB - $80 per month
** If you use more data than is in the plan for which you signed up, there will be overage charges.  Please visit the carrier's web site for the different rates.

To set up cellular data service on your iPad:

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Cellular Data
  • Switch Cellular Data to "ON"
  • Go to View Account
  • Fill out the form, including name, phone number, email address, and credit card information

Please take note:

  • If you no longer wish to use the cellular data plan, you must cancel the plan with your carrier or you will continue to be charged.  You can continue to use the WiFi feature of the iPad.
  • If you do not use your cellular data account for 2 months, you will have to re-enter your personal information again.
  • If you are returning within the 2 month time period, you can click on Existing iPad Customer under View Account and then enter your e-mail address and password
