This course is a survey of texts and issues related to the study of visionary experience and my sticism in the Hebrew Bible, Rabbinic Judaism, and Kabbalistic circles in the ancient, medieval, and late - modern
periods. It examines visionary texts and expressions of mysticism in relation to the religious, social, and political history of the ancient Near East, ancient Israel and Judah, and Judaism in each of these periods.
It pays particular attention to the role that texts and movements have played in enabling Judaism to overcome adversity and to develop new forms of religious expression. Prerequisites:THB3007 or TJS3010
