Non-dimensionalization and scaling, regular and singular perturbation problems, asymptotic expansions; asymptotic evaluation of integrals with Laplace's approximation, Watson's lemma, steepest descents and stationary phase; perturbation methods in ordinary and partial differential equations; boundary layers and matched asymptotic expansions; method of multiple time scales; homogenization; WKB method, rays and geometrical optics. Prerequisite: differential equations.
