Admissions

Welcome to the
School of Politics and Economics website

Let me introduce you to our faculty and academic programs available in both our masters and doctoral degree programs. I would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about the competitive advantages of choosing SPE for your graduate studies and the unique benefits you will get by attending Claremont Graduate University.

Choosing a graduate program is a major decision, which could impact the rest of your life. Now that you are in the process of evaluating issues such as tuition cost, program reputation, faculty research and school rankings, we also invite to you consider aspects such as:

  Unique degree programs

Students work closely with faculty on research projects

Develop technical skills that apply to real-world problems
  • Class sizes are small

At SPE, students are our priority. Our faculty and staff are highly devoted professionals willing to listen to you and guide you through your educational journey. Each department's course schedule will confirm that our programs offer a wide selection of graduate seminars each semester. We also offer several transdisciplinary programs that allow students to apply practical skills and considerable knowledge from one or more disciplines to real world-career goals.

When you decide to visit our campus, not only will you be impressed with the student-centered attitude of SPE faculty and staff, but also with the beautiful campus environment and excellent weather conditions that make CGU and Southern California strongly favored for a suitable graduate education. That is why our student population reflects a rich blend of international and domestic students (adding value and broadening perspectives to class discussions and team projects).

Open House

Here in the School of Politics and Economics we hold an Open House for admitted students once each semester. They are usually scheduled in the month of March in the spring semester and October in the fall semester. Check here for the next scheduled Open House in the fall semester.

The Open House provides an opportunity for you to meet our faculty, visit our campus and when possible sit in on a class so you can begin to get a feel for the culture here at Claremont Graduate University.

Information Session

Information Sessions are sponsored by the Recruiting Office here at CGU and are scheduled on a monthly basis. This event is for prospective students and we provide general information on the admissions process and flexibility within our programs. You will also have an opportunity to meet with the department chairs, campus tours are available.

New Student Orientation Program

We schedule new student orientations for our incoming students in the fall and spring semesters. During orientation, you will have an opportunity to meet the Dean, faculty and staff in the School of Politics and Economics.

We realize that the first weeks on a new campus can be very hectic, with learning the location of our departments, classrooms, library, computer labs, etc. New students are assigned a faculty advisor(s) with whom you can discuss and approve courses you wish to take for the semester in which you join our programs. Department secretaries will be available to complete the registration process.

After the registration process, you will be able to obtain your CGU student ID card, pick up your parking permit (free for our campus) and sign up for your CGU email account.
