This past February, CWEST sponsored a very successful conference at CGU:

Women in Economics & Political Economy: Career Paths & Research Agendas

(Click HERE to view a QuickTime video of conference speakers)

The conference explored issues faced by female social scientists pursuing their intellectual goals in traditionally male-dominated fields such as economics, political economy, and quantitative research.  The gathering provided an opportunity for econ/political economy women faculty and students to network and discuss the choices they have made, issues in career trajectories, and to present an overview of their research.     Presentations included the following titles:

  • “Altruism Meets the Dismal Science” - Eleanor Brown, Pomona College
  • "The Job Market:Strategies for Success" - Marcelle Chauvet, UC Riverside
  • “The View from Outside the Ivory Tower” - Susanne Trimbath, STP Advisory
  • “Strategies for Being Successful in Research” - Ayse Imrohoroglu, USC
  • “Strategies for Success:  Developing Social Capital” - Jennifer Merolla, CGU
  • “Follow Your Heart” - Nancy Rose, California State University, San Bernardino
  • “Choosing Mentors, or Rather, Getting Them to Choose You” - Jennifer Ward-Batts, CMC
  • "Interdisciplinarity: A Double-Edged Sword” - Nancy Nieman-Auerbach, Scripps College
