Health Insurance
The information below is for ALL ENROLLED Students;
Additionally International Students click here. |
-
CGU Insurance can be billed directly onto your tuition statement at the rates listed below. Domestic students must request to be added to the plan by contacting admiss@cgu.edu with their request; international students are automatically enrolled in CGU insurance. Coverage for the Summer semester is included in your Spring semester student account balance. No refunds will be provided for the portion unused in Summer.
-
CGU's Insurance can be used in any country except your home country (US domestic students excluded).
-
CGU's insurance does not include eye or dental coverage. International Place at ipoffice@cmc.edu can be of assistance in finding additional carriers.
-
When you use your insurance you may be asked to pay your bill up front. Fill out the Claim Form and make a copy of it and all receipts for your records. You will then need to submit the original form and receipts to the insurance company who will issue you a refund.
-
CGU Dependent Coverage. You may also purchase CGU health insurance for your dependents.
Note to International Students: immigration law requires that international dependents be covered while in the US.
- You can only insure dependents in the CGU plan if you are also insured through CGU.
- International Students: Dependents must be insured within 30 days of their arrival date or they become ineligible to be covered by you.
- Dependent rates are paid directly to the insurance company (as opposed to student insurance which is reflected on your CGU bill) at the rates listed below. Dependents may be added at any point in the semester, provided they are insured within 30 days of their arrival, but will be charged for the entire semester rate.

**Prices above reflect a non-refundable enrollment fee of $10. Student enrolling in the Fall and continuing coverage through to Spring will not be charged the enrollment fee (spring/summer student account balance will reflect a $10 deduction).
IMPORTANT: International students must always have coverage. If your personal insurance will expire mid-way through the semester, you should either extend the coverage or purchase CGU insurance at the start of the semester. Partial semester coverage is unavailable so please plan ahead.

Opting Out of CGU Insurance: Choosing an Independent Insurance Provider
You may opt into or out of CGU insurance until the end of CGU's add/drop period. Remember, partial semester coverage is unavailable so please plan ahead for your insurance needs.
All Claremont Graduate University students are required to have health insurance. Immigration policy requires that all international students be covered by an insurance policy. There are 2 ways to satisfy these institutional and governmental rules:
1. Purchase CGU Health Insurance
2. Purchase and provide proof of health insurance from an independent provider.
You must opt into or out of CGU insurance by the end of CGU's add/drop period. No exceptions will be made. Please review the information below for specific information on CGU's insurance plan and policy.
You will be asked to show proof of health insurance every semester to opt out of CGU insurance. To provide proof, you will need to mail or fax a copy of your insurance card/policy to the Assistant Director of International Services or stop by the Assistant Director's office to submit proof prior to registering for classes with your department. Please note: an insurance hold preventing your registration will be placed on your account until proof is rendered.
