Why is Peter Drucker so popular in the business community in Japan and other East Asian countries? To my mind, his books are well received and appreciated in Japan because of the analytical framework used implicitly in his writing. My interpretation of his methodology is as follows:

Provide accurate descriptions of long-term changes in institutions, performance patterns and other significant aspects of a country’s polity, economy, and society to date.

Understand the present business environment within this historical, political, economic and societal context.

Identify foreseeable changes in the social, economic, and global conditions external to the business.

And, finally, provide predictions and speculations about the business environment specific to the country in the future.

In other words, Peter was able to provide managerial insights that are highly relevant and not out of context to the country’s managers.
