PROGRAM

Headline news reports continuously display the tenuous relationships shared between nations. Recently, it has become more apparent that the global community is a system of movements, conflicts, and compromises needing constant attention. This attention, in part, is necessary from scholars who explore the global climate through critical thinking, applied research and evaluation, and artistic construal to inform an international audience.

An important part of our mission as scholars is to direct awareness and understanding toward social issues through provocative research and action. As such, the Minority Mentor Program offers a venue at which scholarly thought, represented across the Claremont Colleges, can be discussed and utilized for social betterment.

Graduate Students and McNair Scholars of the Claremont Colleges and local Universities are prepared to present papers, posters, panels, performance art and artwork for the 8th Annual Minority Mentor Program Student Research Conference and Art Exhibition.  The Conference will be held at Claremont graduate University on March 2, 2007, in the Ron W. Burkle Family Building from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, with a grand reception to follow.

The Minority Mentor Program Student Research Conference and Art Exhibition provides a supportive environment for Claremont students to present academic and artistic work.  The conference goals include:

·        Promoting student research
·        Providing a safe place to develop presentation skills and receive feedback
·        Provoking dialogue of social, cultural, and global issues
We welcome presentations from all fields and especially encourage work that transgresses the boundaries of traditional disciplines. This year's conference program will provide a forum to promote further discourse on international issues. In doing so, the conference will highlight social, practical, and academic issues and resolutions within and across disciplines and fields. Artistic submissions will provide an opportunity for further dialogue of conference subject matter.
