Faculty Bios 

 

Orlando Blake, Ph.D.'s career has spanned more than twenty years and includes senior management positions at Mercantile National Bank, Warner Bros., Inc. and GUESS?, Inc., the multinational apparel manufacturer and retailer. Formerly a contributing editor at Personnel Policy Manual and HR Matters, he writes monthly for the maquilladora-focused Twin Plant News.  He received his masters from the University of Southern California, with a specialization in applied behavioral sciences. He followed this with a doctorate and breakthrough research at Claremont Graduate University that discovered new and unique techniques to solve interpersonal and organizational disputes.  Harvard University has included his research in their study of critical moments in negotiation.  In addition to his successful mediation and organizational consulting practice, he currently serves on the University of California, Riverside Extension Advisory Board, where he teaches mediation and at Claremont Graduate University, where he teaches in the School of Behavioral and Organizational Science. Bettina J. Casad, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at Cal Poly Pomona, in the Department of Psychology and Sociology.  Bettina completed her bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Women Studies at University of Washington and received her master’s in Psychology and Ph.D. in Psychology from CGU with a specialization in Social Psychology, Social Cognition. Bettina also had multiple publications on topics relating to confirmation bias, expectations, and work-family interaction.

 

Dennis Campos, M.P.A., is a consultant with HR Total Solutions.  Dennis has more than twenty years of progressive HR and management experience in a variety of international and domestic industries. His background includes developing and implementing innovative compensation and benefit programs for all levels of organization.  Dennis received both his M.P.A. and B.A. from California State University, Fullerton.

 

Daniel F. Duran, Ph.D., is the President and Founder of Energized Solutions, LLC. Dan’s background includes twenty-five years of leadership positions in the IT and energy sector with the last ten years focused on the deregulated and regulated retail product and service divisions of Southern California Edison, PacifiCorp, Edison Enterprises, and Sempra Energy Solutions. Dan currently serves as a mentor to a broad range of executives in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, including leadership development for international firms. He received his Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology from the University of Wisconsin.

 

Pam Gefke, Ph.D., is President of Gefke International, a consulting practice specializing in Executive and Leadership Development.  Pam has over 25 years experience working with CEO’s, company Presidents, and Senior Executive Teams to create tailored leadership development experiences designed to stimulate or respond to change. She was in charge of Executive Development for Sempra Energy and led the Change Management Team during the merger of the Southern California Gas Company and San Diego Gas & Electric.  Pam also worked for ARCO in various capacities for over 18 years, including designing their renowned Executive Seminar Program.  In addition, she led all of ARCO’s recruiting functions worldwide, directed Executive Compensation, and worked on over 25 acquisitions.  Pam has also been the Assistant Director of Continuing Education at USC.  She received her Ph.D. in education/psychology from the University of Arizona in Tucson.

 

Rod Hoover, S.P.H.R., E.M.B.A., M.A.M., is Manager of Human Resources for California Steel's corporate office and field locations with 950+ employees.  He has accumulated over twenty years of experience in various HR functions including corporate and multi-site union and non-union manufacturing, distribution and service operations.  Rod received both his EMBA and MAM from the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.

 

Lloyd Loomis, J.D., has been practicing law for over 30 years.  His practice includes a wide variety of employment law issues involving both employment litigation and counseling.  Mr. Loomis' litigation experience includes class action discrimination and wage hour matters as well as claims brought by individuals involving wrongful termination, age, race, sex and national origin discrimination, sex harassment and drug testing.  In 1992, Mr. Loomis was appointed by Governor Wilson to the California Workers' Compensation Fraud Assessment Commission (reappointed in 1995 and 1998).  In 1994, he was appointed by NLRB Chairman Gould to the NLRB Advisory Panel (Management) and in 1996, he was appointed by the Chair of the EEOC to serve on the committee responsible for developing proposed regulations for the Older Workers Benefits Protection Act.  Mr. Loomis is a member of the California, Missouri and Illinois Bars, and the Committee on Individual Rights and Responsibilities in the Workplace of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the ABA.  He is also an adjunct professor at Claremont Graduate University.

 

Jill Nemiro, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology and Sociology Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; and an adjunct professor in the Human Resources Design Masters Program at Claremont Graduate University.  She has published numerous articles and book chapters on creativity and virtual teams, and has also won awards for papers in those areas.  Her most recent work is a book she co-edited entitled, The Collaborative Work Systems Fieldbook: Strategies, Tools, and Techniques (Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer). Just released is her book Creativity in Virtual Teams: Key Components for Success (Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer, click here to read more).  Before teaching, Jill worked on teams in the film industry for many years. Robert Oberlander, Ph.D., is the Senior Vice President and Senior Master Coach for Lee Hecht Harrison. Bob has more than 30 years of experience in management, administration, organizational development, human resource management, and consulting.  He has taught graduate and adult university courses for over 20 years. Bob received his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Southern California.

 

Richard Savich, Ph.D., CPA, President and Founder of ABKO Consulting, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  Dr. Savich has published over thirty books and articles in various academic and professional journals around the world.  He has consulted on six continents and in over three dozen countries. His focus lies primarily in management accounting but has expanded into information systems, executive education, and, most currently, strategic and long range planning in organizations.

 

Scott J. Schroeder, Ph.D. is Dean of the School of Business and Associate Professor of Management at Chaminade University of Honolulu.  His research focuses of individuals’ personal power and social influence at work, with special interest in getting people the power they need to have personal and professional success in their careers.  He has done extensive clinical work in executive psychotherapy and coaching and consults on issues of executive development and team effectiveness.  Scott has held dean, chairperson, and faculty positions at several universities, and he has taught courses on individual effectiveness, organizational theory, organizational development, and crisis management in the HRD program at CGU since 1996.  He completed doctoral specializations in management and counseling psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles.

 

Stephen D. Schuster, Ph.D., has extensive experience working inside companies as an HR executive, as a consultant for a wide variety of profit and not-for-profit organizations, and as a professor of management at the graduate and undergraduate levels.  From the corporate standpoint he was most recently the head of HR for Capitol-EMI Music Distribution.  He is an executive coach and consultant for high-tech IT startup firms as well as family owned design and production companies.  He currently is also an adjunct professor at Cal State Northridge, and the University of Judaism.  His undergraduate degree is from Duke University in Psychology and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas is also in Psychology.

 

Ronald F. Smedley, M.A., is the President and Founder of Synergistic Resource Associates (SRA). He has over twenty years of HR experience in both for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. He also has developed and implemented viable cost-effective programs for clients such as United Airlines, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Toyota Motor Sales Incorporated, Talbert Medical Group, CHM Environmental Group, and Amtec Human Capital.
