Claremont Graduate University (CGU) has named Bedford McIntosh as vice president for Advancement. His term begins on July 1.
McIntosh emerged after a national search conducted over the last several months. As vice president, he will oversee the university’s Advancement, Alumni Relations, and University Communications offices.
“I am delighted to have a professional of Bedford’s caliber in this critical area of our institution,” CGU President Deborah Freund said. “He has more than 30 years of exemplary experiences in fundraising, and he will be able to take our powerful message to those who seek to create a better future through research and teaching that matter.”
McIntosh comes to CGU from Loyola Marymount University (LMU), where he has served as vice president for development and alumni relations since 2007. At LMU, he supervised a team of approximately 45 professionals and a fundraising campaign that will soon close with more than $409 million committed, over its goal of $380 million.
From 2001 to 2006, he served as vice president for advancement at Whittier College, where he completed fundraising for a $15 million expansion of the library in what was then the largest capital project in the college’s history.
Prior to that, he served eight years as vice president for development at Harvey Mudd College. While there, the college’s fundraising campaign raised $75.5 million, $5.5 million over its goal.
“I am delighted to be back in Claremont and honored to be associated with CGU, a unique and remarkable place,” McIntosh said. “I believe the university is poised to become an even greater resource for solving some of the most challenging problems facing society. I am very excited to be a part of this unfolding future.”
In welcoming McIntosh to CGU, Freund praised the search committee, which was led by Trustee Stephen Rountree, and also included Trustees Carolyn Denham, John Llewellyn, Mashi Rahmani, and Virgil Roberts, with School of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences Dean Stewart Donaldson and Director of Development David Carpenter.
