Claremont Graduate University is pleased to present While You Were Out, a wide-ranging exhibition featuring the works of second-year MFA students. The show opens at the East and Peggy Phelps Galleries on Monday, September 24, with an artist reception on Tuesday, September 25, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The exhibition continues through October 12 so that area art lovers will have ample opportunity to enjoy these diverse and fascinating pieces. The galleries are open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The exhibition explores contemporary themes and includes work by painters, illustrators, sculptors, ceramicists, and digital artists from all over the world. With a broad array of styles—abstract to realistic, expressionistic to hard-edged—the group unites to engage and intrigue its audience. The show’s 29 artists impress viewers as they continue CGU’s long history of outstanding art-making that includes alumni such as Karl Benjamin, John Frame, and James Turrell.
The Claremont Graduate University Arts Department exhibition program strives to present professional artwork of local, national, and international prominence. Its two main galleries feature a regular changing selection of outstanding visual arts and design exhibitions that are historical or contemporary in content and reflect the educational goals of the Art Department.
