Unique Features of HIM at CGU HIM at CGU

The role of Health Information Management is critical to the mission of enhancing patient care, advancing medical science and reducing the risks and cost to the consumer.  Claremont Graduate University has recognized the need to create leaders in this field and has designed a unique, transdisciplinary program to meet this growing demand.  At CGU, you will receive instruction in not one, but all of the critical areas related to Health Information Management—classes in information technology, health science, mathematics and management.  In addition to coursework, ours is the only curriculum in the country to offer a Clinical Immersion component, giving you indispensable work experience in a real-world setting.

Our School of Information Systems and Technology is one of only a handful of stand-alone, research-intensive information systems and technology schools in the nation, and both our students and faculty are fully engaged in e-Health research.  The Kay Center for e-Health Research was recently established at CGU with a $1 million grant from the Kay Foundation.  Directed by Professor Thomas Horan, its mission is to advance scientific understanding and public policy improvements relative to how new electronic health systems can best incorporate health and
disability data needs to enable industry efficiency.

In addition to the work being done in the Kay Center, faculty members Dr. Samir Chatterjee and Dr. Gondy Leroy are also managing students in several e-health research projects including telemedicine, medical text and data mining, and software development.

CGU is the only comprehensive university in the nation devoted entirely to graduate-level education. Our unique environment allows you to form close, interactive relationships with our faculty. Our small-scale campus provides you with an intimate educational experience, and our affiliation with the prestigious Claremont Colleges will provide you access to superior resources and services.
