Pitzer is honored to host Dr. Viharidas Patel, a leading authority on strategies for promoting entrepreneurship as a key to economic development in India. He will give talks to two classes and a Public Lecture at Noon on Thursday, October 9 in the Founder’s Room. The public lecture will address the recent rise of India as a growing economic power and is titled: “India’s Economic Resurgence: Is the Tiger Un-caged?”
Dr. Patel is the Founding Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI). He pioneered the schemes for financing and training first generation entrepreneurs in India and is considered the father of the entrepreneurship development movement in his country and in the developing world. This movement has spread throughout India and is responsible for 30,000 new enterprises each year. With the support of a number of international organizations—the World Bank, UNIDO and the International Labor Organization—the Indian Model is now operating in over 25 developing countries.
