Iris Blandon-Gitlin	Iris Blandon-Gitlin Assistant Professor and Researcher on Legal Psychology California State University, Fullerton "We know that, in some situations—when things happen quickly, when we are scared, or even when we are dealing with someone from a different ethnic group—most people do not record everything they see in their memory," says Dr. Blandòn-Gitlin. "That’s why my applied work is so meaningful. I feel I have an immediate impact on the justice system. Everyone says, 'That's ridiculous, I would never say I had done something if I hadn’t done it,' but it actually happens. And it's very common. We have found that some interrogation techniques that are very popular with law enforcement can cause people to confess to crimes that they may not have committed." Dr. Blandòn-Gitlin, who began her undergraduate studies with the goal of becoming a clinical psychologist, discovered her interest in cognitive psychology while working on her bachelor’s degree. When she showed promise in her studies around psychology and the law, her advisor told her about work done by Dr. Kathy Pezdek at CGU. "As I was driving to campus and I hit Claremont, I knew I was home," she says. "The beautiful buildings, all the trees—it’s a captivating environment." She quickly built strong bonds through working with the faculty, bonds that paid off when it came time to look for a position herself. "I had an offer from Fullerton before I had even defended my dissertation! I know that the proactive faculty at CGU were partially responsible for helping me get here."	Theodore Joseph
