CGU Student comments re: CST housing

...If you want a room, please don't ask for a studio because there is always a waiting list for a studio, but not a 1 bedroom.  I personally recommend CST housing because it's quiet and there is usually always a vacancy.

...CST housing is somewhat affordable, and very convenient. However, it's extremely loud (screaming children all over the place), maintenance is virtually non-existent, mail delivery seems occasionally fishy, and the administration in general doesn't really seem to have its act together, nor does it try to hide the fact that answering a question, etc., is a huge hassle.

...one of my friends recently had some really horrible experience with CST housing--two in particular stand out:  First, CST housing had made several untimely mistakes for three consecutive months for charging rent to my friend’s credit card.  Even worse, CST housing made a recent major change in their policies without announcing it to any of the residents: if a resident cannot find or is not assigned a roommate for a two-bedroom apartment, that resident will have to cover the entire cost of the apartment.  My friend only found out about this when attempting to sign a lease for the upcoming year.

Weber Rentals: Several CGU religion students are now living in apartments along the west side of Garey Avenue in Pomona between Foothill and Harrison (a relatively safe area of Pomona that is only a couple of miles from campus).  There are 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments available—and the 2-bedroom apartments are less than CGU’s campus housing (and much nicer).  Contact Muriel Weber at 909.624.7383 for more info, or e-mail Luke Schulte for info —my wife and I live in one of the 2-bedroom apartments.  Our apartment had new carpeting and paint when we moved in and has beautiful oak cupboards in the kitchen—we never imagined we could get an apartment in the area that would both be nicer than and competitively priced with on-campus housing.

The Claremont Courier, published 2x/week (Wednesdays and Saturdays).

We found a small house (for the price of a two-bedroom apartment), within walking distance of CGU, and with a lemon tree, in the first ad that we sought out our first day searching. Obviously, there are no guarantees, but the paper is worth a glance, especially if you can call about ads the day the paper's published...

Westside Rentals is a good site for finding housing in the greater LA area (includes Claremont area but especially good for people who might want to live elsewhere, like Pasadena or LA).

NB: None of these sites/agencies are endorsed by the School of Religion. Listings are provided at the recommendation of Religion students who have had success finding housing with them.
