Need Stuff?  Try These...

GROCERIES

Claremont Farmers' and Artisans' Market: 2nd St between Indian Hill and Yale Ave., Claremont, every Sunday from 8 am - 1 pm.

Sprouts: 835 West Mountain Ave, Claremont ~ 909.267.1049 -- bit pricier than Trader Joe's and the Farmer's Market, but open from 8 am - 10 pm every day and closer than Trader Joe's.

Trader Joe's: 333 South Mountain Ave. (not to be confused with the Mountain Ave in Claremont where Sprouts is, both of which intersect/run perpendicular to Foothill), Upland, CA 91786 ~ 909.946.4799

...always has good prices, provides many organic options, and is a good boost for farmers instead of the “middleman” (and this comes from a Nebraska farm boy).

most affordable bet, but their produce ain't that grand. If you want better options in terms of health and fair trade, you'll have to drive to Pasadena (although I hear some better stuff is coming to the old school house area).

Wolfe's Market: 160 W. Foothill Blvd., Claremont ~ 909.626.8508 -- a family owned and operated specialty grocery store and catering business since 1917.  Great sandwiches reasonably priced (with daily specials!) at the deli-counter -- the marinated mushrooms are a must!

Stater Bros: closest is Foothill and Towne Ave (border of Claremont & Pomona)

Vons: closest is Baseline and Claremont Blvd, Claremont

GAS

I'm not sure if anyone else in the world's car requires high octane gas like mine does, but the Shell on the corner of Towne and Foothill has deals on THURSDAY EVENINGS: mid-grade is only 1-2 cents more than regular, and premium is only 11 cents more than regular.

The cheapest gas is the Arco on Foothill in Pomona (on the right side).

GIFTS

Raku in the Village is a great (if somewhat pricey) gift shop if you're looking for quirky stuff. Great greeting cards.

MUSIC & MOVIES (buying and selling)

Rhino Records (SW corner, Bonita & Yale) and Video Paradiso (Bonita Ave, W of Yale) are great places for music and videos, respectively. Both are very helpful, but if you special order stuff with Rhino, you need to keep on top of them.

Rhino Records (in downtown Claremont) is the best .  If you need money, you can sell your used CDs/DVDs for a good price.

Also, I highly recommend not to get a Blockbuster card because the one on Foothill and Mountain is always out of movies.  Try the new Hollywood Video on Indian Hill Blvd. after the 10.

FITNESS

24 Hour Fitnesson Foothill in LaVerne is great.  There is another one on Central Ave. in Upland.

Iron Works Gym, a local gym on Foothill and Claremont Blvd (near the Chevron), is cheap and you won't get locked into a membership.

The Rains Center at Pomona is affordable, but they don't maintain their equipment very well (at least half of the machines in the cardio room are normally out of order), and they're not open on any school holidays. Their hours on break or during the summer are very limited, and they're usually closed on weekends during that time.

In Upland, there’s a place called Fitness 19 along Foothill Blvd. It has some of the lowest membership rates in the area as well as great equipment.

HAIRCUTS

Urban Renewal (in the Village) has affordable prices and you can get sort of edgy styles there. Usually, you can get an appointment the same day.

Supercuts on Foothill loves CGU students.  If you do the survey at the end of your receipt you get a $1 off your next visit.

The Hair After in the Claremont village is close to campus, a good price, and good quality.
