Learning Objectives

By the end of this course the participants were able to:

  • State disparities in healthcare that can be mitigated by adoption of PHRs by diverse patient populations
  • Demonstrate the components of an integrated and interoperable network and connect those to uses in clinical practice
  • Explain relationship between PHRs and catastrophes and how the use of PHRs during these and other times of unexpected events can lead to more expeditious and effective patient care
  • Evaluate the National Health Information Network Model and apply the concepts to policy making action items that may lead to change
  • Compare EHRs and common practices in clinical environments
  • Differentiate the attributes of PHR systems currently available to a variety of consumer communities (diverse, disabled, chronic, etc.)
  • Identify of the role of the ONC and policy makers in HIT
  • Describe the main advantages of a PHR for patient self-care management
