It's that time of the year again – Graduation! Another class of Drucker students has headed up to start a successful career in management, marketing, finance, strategy or global leadership. Arun Managlam is one of Drucker School's MBA class of 2010 graduating this May. His plan after graduation is to start his career as an Internal Auditor at Deloitte, Tokyo where he will work on IT risk management and setting guidelines for corporate governance. Before Arun gets busy implementing his management education into a real-life career, he has some experience to share with all of you prospective Drucker students.
Arun, what is your most memorable experience at Drucker?
Being a student at Drucker, we can share a common ground for good conversations during networking events. I’ve had several opportunities to meet and interact with executives and leaders in the commercial, non-profit and government sectors. An unforgettable experience was meeting Dr. Iqbal Quadir, founder of Grameen phone and Director of the Legatum Center at MIT, and sitting next to him at dinner. I remember him saying: “Every social problem is an opportunity in disguise and if we can solve the problem, it will automatically end the suffering of people.” He is an inspiration for business students all over the world, and meeting him was an incredible experience.
How does Drucker prepare you me for real-life success?
believe that management education from the Drucker School is truly a transformational experience. We undergo training that ingrains strong leadership traits into our personality. As Dean Ira Jackson puts it, the Drucker School does not prepare us to be managers but to be effective leaders. There are plenty of activities on campus that we can get involved in and practice our leadership skills. Most companies identify Drucker graduates as talented, ethically driven and having strong leadership qualities. It is an excellent credential to have if you’re planning to move on to top leadership positions within a company.
