1.   REVIEW YOUR ADMIT PACKET

Your admit packet was mailed to you via U.S. Postal Service within two weeks of the time you first learned of your admission from your academic department. Read it carefully

2.  SECURE YOUR FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS

Ensure that you have made arrangements to finance your education. In financing
your CGU education, there are two types of aid you can apply for: institutional aid
and federal aid.

  • Institutional Aid: When you first applied to CGU, you most likely submitted a Profile/Institutional Aid Request form for your academic department to consider you for an award.  The awards they are able to give to selected students are usually in the form of fellowships, research assistantships and teaching assistantships and minority fellowships. If you have questions regarding these types of awards, please contact your academic department directly, or you can visit the Office of Student Financing's page on Institutional Aid.

  • Once an institutional aid award has been made, you will receive a letter from the Office of Student Financing detailing the award. Please read and follow all the instructions given with the award letter to ensure the monies are credited to your account.

3.  OBTAIN YOUR I-20 OR DS-2019

Please review the information on our Obtaining an I-20 or DS-2019 to CGU page for a guide on the steps necessary to obtain an I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students) to Claremont Graduate University.

4.  VIEW NEW STUDENT AFFAIRS ORIENTATION

This online orientation is designed to improve your overall student experience at CGU; it will answer FAQs and will help you to become familiar with where to go for answers and resources.  The Orientation covers:

5.  ATTEND INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION AND COMPLETE INTERNATIONAL CHECK - IN

Information about international student orientation will be sent to you via email after your I-20 or DS-2019 has been issued and will be posted on the website near the start of the semester. You will make an appointment at orientation to meet with the Assistant Director of International Services to complete the mandatory international check-in process. For information about the items needed to complete international check-in, please review the New International Student Pre-Registration Information (I-3) form found on our Handouts and Forms page.

6.  REGISTER FOR CLASSES

As an international student, you cannot register for courses until after you have arrived at CGU, attended orientation, met with your academic advisor, and completed the check-in process with the Assistant Director of International Services. If your department hosts an orientation, they will also cover registration details at that time. Though your department should notify you of any upcoming orientation dates, you may wish to contact them directly regarding this matter using the contact information listed in your admissions packet or here. In the meantime, you may wish to review registration information for new students by visiting www.cgu.edu/register.
