The CGU Art Department is housed in its own building nestled within the greater Claremont College community. Each student is assigned an individual studio measuring approximately 22 x 12 feet with track lighting. The building was designed to facilitate an active art community for a graduate-only population. All students have 24-hour access to their studios.
In addition to offices and studios, the facilities include two galleries that are used for a variety of exhibitions. Each graduating student holds a solo show in either the East Gallery or the Peggy Phelps Gallery.
The building also provides numerous opportunities for displays of student work. A rotating schedule is set for the various spaces, which include a large outdoor atrium, an installation gallery, video display areas and a variety of wall spaces.
The department also has a fully-equipped wood shop and the building's rear sculpture yard accommodates the growing material and fabrication needs of our student body, including a metal shop and plastics/casting booth.
