Biography

Dr. Jeanne Fryer is the Coordinator of Special Education programs for the School’s Teacher Education program. Dr. Fryer oversees the academic coursework, supervision and credentialing requisites for Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Education Specialist Credential programs. She comes to CGU TEIP with extensive experience in working with and developing programs for individuals with cognitive, behavior and physical disabilities. Prior to her current role she directed a community based neuro-rehabilitation program, taught Learning Disabilities in the Department of Psychology and was a demonstration teacher at the Psychology Lab School (Fernald School) at UCLA, conducted brain-behavior and child development research at Stanford University, and co-directed a Special Education Teacher Education leadership program at UCR. The program relies upon Dr. Fryer’s knowledge of brain science and neuropsychology; her background in both general education and special education classroom teaching; her experience as a LMFT (Licensed Marriage Family Therapist); her expertise in developing innovative special education programs in Los Angeles Unified School District and Riverside Unified School District; and her wide-ranging experience with culturally and linguistically diverse populations. She offers courses in Brain-Based Learning; Educational Psychology from a Philosophical and Historical Perspective; Inclusion and Human Development in Education; Behavioral, Health and Emotional Issues in Special Education. Dr. Fryer’s research interests include; Quality of Life Issues, Cognitive and Emotional Processing, Disability Studies, Narrative Research, Teaching Strategies for Individuals with Cognitive, Physical and Emotional Disabilities, Child Development, Inclusive Programmatic Policy Development, Cross Cultural Studies and Teacher Education.
