Coaching-Training
Our school, Palmdale High School worked closely with the I@IH for over six years. An integral part of this partnership was the coaching/training of both teachers and administrators. All the pedagogy is aimed at increasing student achievement. As administrators, we were involved in planning logical activities while designing meaningful professional development for our teachers. Our teachers were able to engage in precise professional development, targeted for groups of students and teaching levels. Our relationship with IIH was an integral part of moving our school forward.
Evaluation
One of the most valuable experiences our school was involved with was a comprehensive needs assessment. The process took a close look at all aspects of education at our school, while involving all stakeholders within and around our school. The result was an objective, comprehensive, non-threatening feedback report that helped shape our planning and vision.
Professionalism and Client Relations
As an aspect of our partnership with IIH, we had the opportunity to work with content experts who shared researched based, best practices with our teaching staff. As administrators, we frequently engaged in high-level dialogue, which was always relevant to our unique level and progress as an organization.
Outcomes
Palmdale High School has achieved 7 years of positive academic growth (API). You must consider that we are a school of over 3,300 students, and get measured in 30 AYP groups, including large populations of Title One and English Learners. When compared to similar schools throughout the state of Ca., no other school has outperformed PHS in terms of raw academic gains. Much of our success can be attributed to the leadership that IIH provided for our administration and teachers.

Evaluation
IIH developed and implemented a very thorough evaluation process that engaged all stakeholders in reflection and dialogue about the status and hopes for their school. The report was based on triangulated data that led credence to the findings. The inclusion of direct quotations proved invaluable for understanding the varying perspectives of those who participated in the evaluation.
Professionalism and Client Relations
The IIH staff was professional and responsive to requests during the design and implementation of the evaluation process.
Outcomes
The IIH report has served the invaluable purpose of galvanizing a community of learners to look deeply at themselves to celebrate their successes and identify next steps.
Other
We gained valuable insights about our high school that have served to refine the focus and direction of our continual improvement efforts.

Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Staff Development
Mountain View School District
Evaluation
The Institute at Indian Hill performed a full evaluation of our CSR (Comprehensive School Reform) through the school's STAR performance and CSR implementation. In the evaluation, clear focus was provided pointing to the areas that needed attention. Interviews were held with all staff that proved to be insightful because of the quality of questions. The evaluation also analyzed parent involvement and activities that also pointed out areas of need.
Professionalism and Client Relations
The professionalism as demonstrated by clear communication was strong. Many organizations can deliver an evaluation product, but to do it in a manner that is palatable and thoughtful helps to motivate the need for change.
Outcomes
The schools and District clearly benefited from the evaluation services. Schools and the District were validated for the efforts and decisions that have been made to increase academic achievement of students.
Other
The professionalism and relationship that Indian Hill has developed with the District helps to ease thinking about or worrying about the work of a hired consultant. The work is always well done and complete. Meetings held with Indian Hill are productive and result in clearer thinking surrounding the issues at hand.

Coaching-Training
The Institute at Indian Hill has been a valuable resource in our efforts to increase the capacity of our teachers and school administrators. The coaching and training has resulted in greater confidence and professionalism in our schools.
Evaluation
The teachers are able to assess and evaluate students more accurately and frequently without feeling burdened. This assessment provided the teachers with a more accurate picture of the student's needs and the teacher is better prepared to meet the students' needs.
Professionalism and Client Relations
The evolution of the consultant-client relationship has resulted in a trusting relationship between the consultant and school administration.
Outcomes
The involvement of the Institute at Indian Hills has transformed the culture of our High School on Kauai. Teachers are more motivated, competent, and engaging during their classroom instruction and during professional development activities. The students are more engaged, motivated, and involved in classroom discussion.

Dr. Bruce Matsui, Ed.D. from the Claremont Graduate University’s School of Educational Studies and his team of teacher trainers have been working with five to six teachers from each department on “bell-to-bell” and “wall-to-wall” instruction. He is training teachers to use research-based, brain compatible strategies to maximize instructional time, Beralas [Dominic Beralas, Core Curriculum Resource Teacher, Kapa’a HS]
said.
Youn [Gilmore Youn, Kapa‘a High School Principal] said they were bringing in people to do workshops, but they weren’t seeing results. The teachers chose Matsui as a consultant to work with them on an on-going basis. Matsui and his team work with selected teachers, observing classes, giving feedback, assisting in developing lessons as well as classroom structure and environment. It’s called a lighthouse project, because the teachers will then mentor other teachers, Beralas said.
Because of Matsui’s teaching of “personalization of the classroom,” Youn spent time during spring vacation figuring out a schedule so that the tenth-grade students taking the HSA could take the math section in their math classes and the reading section in their English classes.
In the past, it was “mass testing.” Everyone was sent to the cafeteria and the proctor would bark orders through a microphone.
