Drucker Alumni Mentoring Program

Rebecca Bakkers
The Alumni Mentor Program is such an advantage and benefit to the students in the Drucker School Program. My interest in Management Consulting means that it is vital I connect with the right people and the right information, to help me forge on a successful career path.

With this in mind, the program's coordinator, Giovanni, took a lot of time finding the right match between myself and a potential mentor. I have to say, he did a great job! The combination turned out to be ideal. I was thrilled to be matched with Jennifer, an active and outgoing business woman in the insurance Industry, who has made such an effort to keep me linked into the business world.

Since the program began in September, Jennifer and I have phoned, emailed and lunched regularly. But not only that, I have attended two large business networking events with her, and she has arrange several lunches with her colleagues in my field of interest. Keep in mind, all of this has occurred in the course of 6 months.

I would recommend every student taking advantage of this unique opportunity offered by the Drucker School because, today more than ever, the networks we create have become just as important as the education we received while in school. The Drucker school is making a concerted effort to develop these networks for students.

It is my pleasure to have this opportunity to express my appreciation toward the Mentor-Mentee Program. I learned about the Mentor-Mentee Program in the Fall 2003, when you introduced the program to Peter Drucker School of Management students. I was fortunate to become one of the mentees. The anxious and curious feeling before meeting my mentor, Bill (Mr. WilliamSchilling) still stays fresh in my memory. Bill has been a generous mentor in many ways over the years. He is not only a mentor to my career journey, but also a life-long mentor leading me to be a better person everyday.

As a veteran of corporate executive, Bill has been giving me invaluable advice and guiding me through my career growth. He also created the opportunities for me to be exposed to the corporate world while I was still a student at Drucker school. In one of his company’s seminars, he introduced me to his company leaders and all of the leaders introduced themselves to me one by one. It was a great networking opportunity for me as a second-year MBA student. Today I still benefit from the confidence that Bill passed to me.

Over the years, Bill and his wife have taken me and my husband in as their family friends. My husband and I treasure all the great time we spent together: my MBA graduation celebration, regular dinners and gatherings, music events and the soccer game etc. Away from my family as an international student, I have found the tremendous family support from Bill and his family.

Knowing Bill and his family is one of the best assets I have received through the Drucker School program. I am grateful for the love that Bill and his family have shared with us. Bill sets a role model before me as a caring friend, a loving father and an executive with integrity. I appreciate what Bill has taught me over the years. I also want to thank you, Melinda for providing me such a great opportunity.
