Why did you choose to attend Drucker?
I chose to attend Drucker to become a wealthy businessman by mastering the principles of Peter Drucker. Learning those principles and getting to know Peter and Doris Drucker opened my eyes. Humans just like businesses have a finite life. Our responsibility during that time is serving the needs of our customers. I learned that pursuing material wealth was putting the cart before the horse. Peter taught us that a company's primary responsibility is to serve its customers. Profit is not the primary goal, but rather an essential condition for the company's continued existence.
How has the Drucker program helped you in your career progression?
The Drucker Program has been a major part of my professional success. I just celebrated my 8 year anniversary with Rose Hills Memorial Park. This opportunity began with an internship created by two CGU alums, Virginia Phillips (Former Rose Hills Chief Operations Officer) and Jeff Decker my CGU professor and mentor. It has been a wonderful experience. I just received the 2008 Rose Hills Sales Director of the Year Award. Without them I would never have even considered working at the cemetery!
What are the benefits of the Drucker alumni network?
The Alumni network plays an important role in the continuation of Drucker’s principles. For example the annual Drucker Day celebration in November provides an opportunity to see old friends, recognize social champions from the Non-Profit Innovation award, and receive valuable updates at the mini-class sessions. We can also continue our learning and networking at the Drucker Centennial Conversations with industry leaders like Meg Whitman, former President and CEO of eBay.
What does the Drucker School represent to you?
The Drucker School represents to me a living, ever-evolving lab for learning and practicing the principles of Peter Drucker. Claremont is the campus for learning the principles but the world is the place for our practice.
