Dissertation Boot Camp --  Saturday and Sunday, Dec 12 and 13

8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Writing Center House
We provide the space, motivation, community, food, yoga, and coffee: you provide the work. The boot camp is for ABD students currently writing their dissertations to have a dedicated weekend to get as much done as possible. 12 ABD students only, reservation and $50 deposit required (personal check to save your space and which will be returned at the workshop).

Dissertation WorkshopEvery other Monday, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
An informal peer group to help doctoral candidates get the support, motivation, accountability, and strategies they need to complete their dissertations. Guest speakers and a group blog share information. For more information, see: http://cgudissertations.blogspot.com . ABD students only, space limited.

Speaking Fluency Workshop – Every Monday; 12:00 to 1:00 pm  
This workshop is an opportunity for international students to enhance their fluency in English.  It focuses primarily on speaking skills by improving the speed of response, reducing hesitation, evaluating the strength of an argument and increasing the length of discourse. All of this and more, while having fun! 

Getting started on your paper – A workshop on pre-writing, brainstorming and outlining.
Friday, September 18; 3:00 to 5:00 pm
Bring the prompt or assignment for your first paper and learn strategies for pre-writing and outlining to get off to a solid start before you draft it.

IRB Workshop  -- Mon, Sept 28; 2 – 3:30 pm
In this workshop, Rev. Catharine Grier Carlson, Associate Chair of the IRB, will provide background and answer questions. Following will be a workshop on writing the protocol.  

GSC Fall Travel Awards WorkshopThursday, Oct 22; 6-7:30 pm
Writing Center House
Are you giving a paper at a conference, traveling to conduct research, or attending your discipline’s annual meeting? If so, you should apply for a GSC Travel Award! This workshop will provide sample essays, discuss questions about the application process, and help you craft a strong, interesting application.

Writing Book Reviews –Nov 9; 2-3:30 pm

This workshop will discuss and practice effective writing of book reviews and present strategies for successful publishing.

Enhancing Your Class Presentations - Tuesday, November 17; 6 - 7:30 pm

This workshop will present tips on enhancing your class and conference presentations using powerpoint as an effective tool to get your material across to your audience.

LaTex Workshop - Wednesday, Nov 18; 5 - 6:30 pm

Writing Center House

This workshop will explain the basics of using LaTex for formulas and diagrams in your dissertation or in handouts for teaching and giving presentations.
