Teaching & Research Interests
Dr. Nelson’s teaching interests include international political economy, international relations, energy policy, international environmental politics and policies, policy evaluation, regulatory policy, and methods.

Hal Nelson is a Research Assistant Professor in the School of Politics and Economics. His research interests include international political economy, climate policy, civic engagement, and decision making. Dr. Nelson is a former member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange where developed and executed arbitrage and risk management strategies for institutional investors. Dr. Nelson a senior advisor to the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) for Residential, Commercial and Industrial, power supply and helps U.S. states develop climate action plans to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases.
Nelson is a co-principal for Sustainable Energy Modeling Project (SEMPro).
