We prepare outstanding teachers.
Principals tell us our Preliminary Credential alumni graduate akin to 4th or 5th year teachers and are among the best in California. Indeed, our graduates have been named Teacher of the Year in California, Los Angeles County, and San Bernardino County (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012). Our reputation for quality means are teachers are highly recruited and are often fast-tracked into leadership. Alumni tell us "I got hired because I am from CGU...I got promoted because of what I learned at CGU."
We're affordable.
We are more affordable than you'd think! On average, 80% of our students receive tuition fellowships, and 90% participate in loan repayment programs. Applicants should make an appointment for a one-on-one admissions consultation that includes a financial aid assessment. Schedule an appointment now!
Earn graduate degrees (MAs or PhDs) while earning a credential.
Candidates in our Preliminary Program graduate with a Master of Arts degree. Teachers working towards their Clear Credential can apply some of their Induction coursework to a Master of Arts or Doctorate (PhD). This saves teachers time and money...and pops them on their school's pay scale!
We're accelerated.
Candidates can earn a Preliminary Credential and a Master of Arts in Education in just 15-19 months. A Clear Credential can be earned in our two-semester Induction Program. Or, jump on our "Direct to Clear" Path and earn a Preliminary, a MA degree, and a Clear in just two years. CGU's "Direct to Clear" Path is the most expedited route to full credentialing.
CGU Teachers Earn Higher Salaries & Get Promoted Quicker
Because our Preliminary Candidates simultaneously earn a MA and their California teaching credential, they earn higher salaries than teachers who don't have advanced degrees. Additionally, a substantial number CGU alumni are promoted to leadership positions within 5 years of graduating.
Teachers can earn-as-they-learn.
We have two paths that allow Preliminary Candidates to earn money while in the program. The Internship Path allows candidates to be employed as fully-salaried, fully responsible teachers in their own K-12 classrooms. The Early-Start Residency Path provides multiple-subject and history candidates a living stipend while working in a K-12 classroom under the tutelage of a CGU Master Teacher. In CGU's Induction Program, teachers have the option of working as fully-salaried teachers while pursuing their Clear Credential.
You can be in CGU's Induction Program even if you are living away from Southern California.
Don't want to live in Southern California but still want to earn a California Clear Credential? Not a problem! Our Induction Program has two modes of delivery: Geo(graphically)-Near and Geo(graphically)-Far. The Geo-Near Option is ideal for teachers who live close to CGU. These teachers are supported face-to-face by a CGU Induction Support Provider/Mentor and take classes at CGU's main campus. The Geo-Far Option is ideal for teachers who aren't geographically close to CGU, whether they are in Anaheim, Alabama, Antarctica, or anywhere else in the world! These teachers engage with each other and CGU's faculty via virtual tools. We are told that CGU's Induction Program is the only program authorized to allow teachers to clear while working abroad.
