Jen's research interests are related to better serving the needs of traditionally underrepresented students at institutions of higher learning.
Jen Miller is a fourth year student in the Ph.D. in Education program with an emphasis on Higher Education/Student Affairs. Her academic interests are related to better serving the needs of traditionally underrepresented students at institutions of higher education (specifically related to how multiple identities impact the help-seeking behaviors of college students). Jen currently works as the Director of the WELL (Well-being, Empowerment, Life and Learning) office at UC Riverside. Jen currently coordinates UC Riverside’s Mental Health/Healthier Campus Climate Initiative that includes the Counseling Center, Campus Health Center, Peer Initiatives, Community Service Office, Student Recreation Center, Health Initiatives, Mental Health Outreach Team, and Diversity Initiatives. Jen grew up in Buffalo, NY. She attended Oberlin College, OH, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology. It was her undergraduate experiences of being a Resident Advisor, working as an Athletic Trainer and being involved in various student organizations that sparked her interest in working in Student Affairs.
Jen went on to earn a Master's of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. While at the University of Michigan, Jen worked as a Resident Director and a Research Assistant for the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program. Jen is currently on the board of the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals (NASPA) National Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP) and serves on the UC System-wide Wellness Advisory Team. Jen's post graduation plans involve further pursuing her academic and professional passion of creating socially just institutions of higher education. She hopes to do so as a student Affairs professional and/or faculty member at an institution that matches her values and goals.
