Course Highlight: Appreciative Inquiry with David Cooperrider

Appreciative Inquiry & The Discovery and Design of Positive Institutions—this is the title of the unique new course that the Drucker School of Management offers this spring semester between March 26-28. The course will be taught by Dr. David Cooperrider, a professor at the Case Western Reserve University and a long-time friend of the Drucker School, and will serve as an introduction in positive organization development - the interdisciplinary approach combining positive psychology and social constructionist theories of inquiry and change.

The course will introduce the concept of positive organizations - institutions that elevate, magnify and refract our highest human strengths into the world, while examining the theory behind this concept, as well as the methods to discover and design positive institutions. Students will also learn how appreciative inquiry can be practiced by managers in their everyday work and examine the tools and methods that make that possible.

David Cooperrider is visiting the Drucker School this semester from the Fairmount Minerals Professor of Social Entrepreneurship at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University and has published 14 books and authored over 50 articles. His work combines the domains of appreciative inquiry methodology and the worldwide innovation study into business as an agent of world benefit. His founding theoretical work in this area is revolutionizing the leadership of change, helping institutions all over the world to discover the power of the strength-based approaches to multi-stakeholder innovation and sustainable design.
