The Student Executive Committee is selected in the spring of each academic year and is the primary liaison between SPE students and faculty. The committee is also involved in the orienting of new students to their particular departments and to the whole of Claremont Graduate University. It will also be actively participating in the mentoring of incoming students especially those entering their PhD track.  The SEC also works closely with the CGU Graduate Student Council (GSC) to ensure a strong and reciprocal relationship between all students, their faculty, their departments, and their university.

A Few Words from the Chair
We are always looking for new members and volunteers to add to our ranks this upcoming year.  Many students continually express a desire to participate in the affairs of the school and their department.  Joining the ranks of the SEC is one of those opportunities.  In addition, 2008-2009 looks to be a very busy and productive year for the committee.  As such, we encourage you to contact any of us with any questions, suggestions or comments.

OFFICERS 2008-2009

SEC PARTICIPATION
SPE students interested in participating on the SEC or in any of its related events are encouraged to contact any of the current members and sign onto our volunteer roster.  The SEC presents an opportunity to be active in the intimate workings of your school.

COLLABORATIONS
Those interested in collaborating with the SEC may contact any of its members.  All SEC events are open to the CGU Community and the public at large.  Our fellow students in the undergraduate colleges are also encouraged to participate in our talks and conferences.

Anyone outside of CGU interested in collaborating with School of Politics and Economics events are also encouraged to contact the SEC.  Issues relating to politics and economics are relevant in all sectors of all societies.  Therefore we are open to creating as many mutually beneficial relationships in our common pursuit of truth and knowledge.

GSC STRATEGIC STUDENT INVOLVEMENT STANDING COMMITTEE (SSI)
The SSI and the SEC established a relationship in 2007 and mutually endeavored to preserve the quality of education and instruction at SPE as well as CGU at large.  This relationship will continue in all likelihood into the 2007-2008 academic year.  Credit is due to  SPE student Karen May (Office of Advancement) who championed this cause.

MySpace.com
and
Facebook.com
More and more of our students are becoming members of either MySpace, Facebook, or both.  It's a trendy yet effective way to extend the reach of current students and alumni.  Although SPE takes no position on either of these, be aware that many of our students at CGU are members.
