Recap of Fall 2012:
The SCGH-Student Association introduced several events this fall.
The fall semester kicked off with a Potluck Social where students, faculty and alumni gathered to welcome the incoming cohort. In October, we hosted our first Professional Development “Speed-Dating” event, bringing together community members, faculty and alumni to share their expertise with students. Speed daters included Drs. Dennis Trinidad, Bin Xie, Patty Kwan, and community members Ruben Brambila (Healthy Rancho Cucamonga) and Jeannette Hughes (Reach Out Upland). Also in October, students and alumni participated in Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino County’s 8th Annual Young Women’s Health Conference. Students and alum took part in the conference’s planning committee and joined forces to develop a “Healthy Relationships” workshop as well as served as group leaders and workshop facilitators at the conference. In November, students organized the first “Healthy Bake-Off”, raising over $250 in funds for next semester. We also introduced a Brown Bag Lunch Discussion. Part one of a two part series featured a forum on Health Care Reform facilitated by Drs. Paul Torrens and Paula Palmer. Stay tuned for the next topic of discussion scheduled for this spring. As the semester came to a close the SCGH community gathered to recognize our fall 2012 graduates at a Holiday Party hosted by Dean Andy Johnson. Check out pictures of these activities and more at the SCGH photo gallery.
