I’ve been painting as a tactic for exploring aspects of parallel processing in perception, our ability or inability to process multiple sets of stimuli simultaneously. I find painting particularly well suited for this type of exploration.
I don’t really collaborate with others while making the actual art itself, I do and am interested in collaboration when it comes to curating shows or participating in exhibitions. I see the process of curating as an incredible opportunity to bring together ideas, juxtapose different viewpoints or try to help the audience look at something they have seen before in a different way.
I plan on finding a teaching position at a college level, preferably but not limited to painting. I also plan on continuing to create and exhibit my artwork.
I think it’s important to stay up on what is happening in the field. Go to shows in Los Angeles, read the LA Times reviews. You’ll get a far better sense of what is currently happening in Art if you see it in person.
The East and Peggy Phelps Galleries have frequent exhibitions including the graduate thesis exhibitions and group shows curated by David Pagel.
