Childhood and Adolescent Obesity Prevention and Education

The rate at which obesity is spreading amongst our youth both nationwide and across the world is outrageously alarming! Obesity affects more than just the numbers on a scale; it can cause a plethora of problems including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, gallbladder disease, high blood pressure, asthma, and depression, to name a few. There is an urgent need to reach out to children and families and equip them with practical tools and awareness on how to prevent obesity from taking over their lives. I am currently a research assistant for a study on obesity intervention for teens led by Dr. Kim Reynolds. I am also working with the city of Azusa in the development of innovative fitness programs to improve the health of Azusa youth. I look forward to continuing research on combating the childhood obesity epidemic and health promotion and prevention for impoverished communities around the world.
