The Early Mod Squad
The Early Mod Squad (EMS) is a group of students and faculty from various disciplines interested in pursuing the early modern period (circa 1450-1700). This era is packed with fascinating people and issues, and debate exists on every front. As a group, we aim to deepen our understanding of the issues involved, encompassing history, literature, philosophy, and religion. In the past, we have hosted small reading groups featuring the works of Edmund Spenser, William Shakespeare, John Donne, and John Milton.
Every other year, we are given a grant to use for academic or social purposes in order to further the best interest of the group, and, while in years past we have hosted a conference, this year we will be hosting a series of speakers from the Southern California region. It's a great opportunity that allows the students not only to network and meet with scholars, but also to mingle with other graduate students in the area. In addition the speakers, we hope to hold another group this year featuring the King James Bible.
